I was born and raised in Hong Kong before moving to the US at the age of 17. Before moving to Boston for graduate school, I'd lived in numerous cities in the US including Lawrence, Kansas, where I completed a B.S. in Genetics with a minor in Japanese and a M.S. in Nutrition. In 2016, I received my Ph.D. in Genetics and it was during my doctoral study that I realized the immense potential of big data and the desperate need for effective communication that translates valuable insights to the general public. While doing freelance work on science communication, I came across the UX discipline and was immediately drawn by the mission and approach of user-centered design. The research focused, hypothesis driven process of design thinking also resonated with me as a scientist.
I am a product designer at a biotech company in Cambridge, Massachusetts. My typical work day is split into 40% product management, 40% design and 20% data science.
When I am not working, you will probably find me on a run along the Charles, at a concert or playing tourist somewhere far far away.
